My S/O and I currently work together in a rather niche industry (journalism). We’ve been together for two years, and we haven’t disclosed our relationship at work. It’s not breaking any rules, we just wanted to keep it private and professional. A few coworkers in other departments know, but not anyone from our own departments or any bosses.
Anyway, on to the question at hand: We’ve recently been applying to other jobs elsewhere. We have both interviewed at a place we really like and scheduled second interviews. Last I heard, they had two positions open. So far, so good! I’m hoping it doesn’t come up, but the employer will no doubt see that we come from the same place and may eventually ask about our relationship. What do I say? OR if only one of us gets an offer, how can I say, “Thanks but my s/o and I are a package deal.” in a professional, inoffensive manner that could leave open future opportunities there for us both?
Thanks for any help/input. I sometimes struggle with what to say and I’m soooo not used to talking about my relationship in a professional context.
