Im a 30M who left his previous government job (where I was up for my second promotion) to move across country and take an entry level government job that starts off with more in a bigger city.
Finances, are fine but the lack of responsibility is killing me. I went from essentially an Analyst III to an Analyst I. Ive tried asking for more work but the nature of the job is limiting (FA I, they have plenty of FA IIs that are trusted more than me). So Im trying to get out again.
My strategy has been to search for and as apply for positions entitled "Financial Analyst" ? But If I want more responsibility shouldnt I go for Director/Assistant Director position? I havent been going for those positions because I assumed 1) there is someome on the inside AND 2) I dont meet all the qualitions listed (mainly supervisor experience).
Essentially Ive been only applying for jobs that are identical to the one I have right now. I always thought that was the best strategy to get a job, but if I stay with that strategy then how can I ever expect growth?
Long story short I want to be a director, but in my new position I may be inline for 10 years due to limited responsibility and the amount of people in front of me.
