Career journal?

I stumbled upon the idea of keeping a career journal to keep track of my work.

While I get what to jot down and refer to, my biggest question is: where to keep it? Assuming I do not have a lockbox of my own, should I keep it on my person at all times? What about possible trade or company secrets?
