I know what I want to do for my job, but I'm not sure if I have the experience required. Should I go back and intern or work a low paying job to gain experience?
Hi everyone,
So my career path has been really unorthodox. Some background on me:
- 25 year old , Asian American Male
-Bachelor's English with a minor in children's literature and childhood studies.
-Was a terrible undergraduate and didn't apply myself at all. I didn't network , didn't participate in groups, and had a 2.8 GPA.
-
Was a hustler and created a viral hit Instagram and was making good money as a college student. I was basically consulting small businesses on how to use social media to their advantage. I was teaching small business tips and techniques to enhance their business growth. Dealt mainly with pet businesses.
-
After graduated in May 2017 I landed a job as a Special Education's teacher. I got this job through connections and a teacher shortage.
-
Decides to enroll in a Master's program for Special Education
-
Realized Special Education wasnt the right field for me. However, I love education and teaching...just not in special ed... still going to finish MA degree. I have 4.0 GPA right now in it.
-
Moved to California
Realized it's super hard to get a job out here in California. Basically I'm debating if I should work low paying entry level jobs in the field I want to get into or intern for jobs that I'm wanting to get into?
My housing situation is fine, I'm staying with some family.
Just kinda lost...
Well not lost ... I know what I want to do. But just wondering if it would be okay to humble myself and work low paying jobs or intern to get to where I want to be.
The job I want to do is instructional design. I know I have the skills to do this job, also this job requires a MA/Advance degree in English, Journalism, Education, Business, Education, Communication, Learning Development or related field is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years of formal training/facilitation experience with 2 or more years of curriculum design and development required, with a background in learning and development methodologies and measurements.
I only have 1 year of professional experience.
I'm wondering if I could use my social media consulting as experience because I did teach my clients how to use social media ?
