Life sciences degree. Applying for medical lab technologist/assistant? (Canada)

I have a BSc in Biochemistry and I work in inspection at a meat packing plant. I'd like to change to a job in the city and hopefully work somewhere that has windows.

There seem to be a good number of jobs for medical lab assistants/technologists, but they all require certifications or diplomas of some sort. In the case of the former, it's a 6-month course and the latter a 2-year diploma.

Is it worth applying to these places with just my Biochem degree? Does anyone have any experience doing this?
