Probation period advice

Hey all,

Hoping for a bit of advice around best approach here.

I started with a new company about 6 months ago in a manager role, reporting to head of department and CEO.

The head of department started a month after I did.

My probation period ends next week but the department lead blindsided me with a review.

During the review she extended my probation by 3 months for some incredible petty and trivial reasons. The last comment was to do with wether I felt threatened by her because I was talking to some people on the leadership team about some website insights (interesting audience stuff). Nothing she didn’t know already. At their request btw.

Day to day I feel she has formed a personal opinion of me that might have coloured the review.

I’ve emailed her to ask for a meeting to try and resolve any communication issues we might have - 3 days and she hasn’t replied.

My questions are

  1. How do I approach this with her and HR. I’m very anxious for my job right now. (Even though continuous feedback from everyone else is awesome).
  2. Should I talk to the CEO. We meet weekly for a casual chat about anything and everything. I had brought it up previously that I felt she really didn’t like me and we agreed to do nothing about it.
  3. I was reviewed by someone in the job less than I and I’ve only worked with her for 3 months total. 5 months excluding holidays. (She took 5 weeks off).

I feel like this 3 month probation is just an excuse for her to move me on.
