Hi everyone. I have been interviewing for a project manager position in my company for about 3 weeks now. There were two rounds of interviews, which went really well, but when it came time to make a decision who would go to the final interview, which was a presentation/ roleplay of a kickoff meeting, I was initially not picked for it. The recruiter said the hiring managers really liked me, they thought I interviewed great, but whereas I have only had one year of business analyst experience within the company, the other external candidates they picked had 10+ years of project management experience under their belt.
However, a few days later the recruiter called and said there had been a change of plans. I had been asked to do the presentation because they were not impressed with the ones they had seen and wanted to give me another chance because they could tell I had potential to become what they needed for the role.
Now, to be honest, I have never organized a meeting before or had to face professional presentations but I am a quick learner and I try my hardest to be as prepared as possible for anything I do. I prepped for this presentation for hours. I have no clue if what I presented was what they were looking for. I did, however, have a leg up over other candidates due to knowledge of most of the terms and tasks that we needed to present since I work in the company and come across most of what was on the presentation on a daily basis.
My question is, assuming and understimating that my presentation was on par and just as non-impressive as every other candidates', ( which I am hoping I was able to impress them ) what do hiring managers usually pick; experience and seniority vs knowledge and potential in situations like these?
I don't think I will get an answer until about 2 weeks from now and I am really bad at waiting for news so I wanted to see what others might think of my situation. Thanks for any responses you throw my way!
