Working Overseas (from Australia)

I'm looking for some guidance from anyone who's continued their career in a different country.

I'm currently a Health, Safety and Environment Manager, with 7+ years experience and a range of relevant qualifications (predominately Diplomas); though most of my skills are transferable.

How did you go about making it happen, what traps should I avoid, and how do I make the transition as smooth and successful as possible?

I'm open to any country truthfully, but like the idea of Asia (particularly Japan), Canada or anywhere in Europe. Would like to stay wherever I land for a minimum of 2-3 years.

Any help would be appreciated!
