I've worked for the same company since graduating college and am making a very comfortable living especially compared to friends and family in other fields. I've always been treated well and I recently received a generous raise and was told of future opportunities for advancement. It felt like a moment that should be really exciting, but I felt nothing but dread that I'd be sucked in deeper and be more committed. I really enjoy my career field, but am particularly unfulfilled by my current position. I've shopped around in the past and all the jobs that would not give me an unbearable commute would be around a 20%+ pay decrease and worse benefits.
Would I be stupid to take what feels like a step backwards in my career to find more interesting and fulfilling work?
