Hey all,
So I'm 30, in Vancouver Canada, have a BSc and currently working in software sales for a mid sized company. My BSC is unrelated to software or sales.
To get to the point, I'm looking for an exit to sales. I do decent in my job and the money can be pretty satisfying, but I can't really see myself doing direct sales or even sales management for the rest of my career.
I want to get more certified in SOMETHING as I believe it'll bulletproof my career.
I would say my biggest passions are - fitness/health, finance/investing, and marketingI love to read business books about start up successes, big tech, economics, marketing.
I feel like I've somewhat narrowed it down to 3 options. Continue in sales, transition to Finance, or transition to Business intelligence. Ideally I'd like to stay in the tech industry and have good work life balance.
- Getting a business / sales/marketing diploma.
- I like the content but I don't know how much weight it'll actually bring to the table. It seems like many software account executives usually just have a bachelor's or diploma in an unrelated field and just worked their way up to their position.
- CFA
- Finance has been a passion of mine, but I don't have interest in working as an investment banker. This would be a total 180 deg switch, jumping into a finance position. I could see myself doing wealth management.
- Business Intelligence
- This field is sounding increasingly attractive to me and I could leverage my sales experience.
I know somebody will probably say MBA and yeah it's on the table but I don't think it's worth the investment right now.
Let me know of your thoughts and we can start some dialogue. If you've taken the time to respond, I really appreciate it.
Cheers.
