Should I quit my job and go back to contracting?

I am currently in an analyst level position at prestigious AM. The trouble is my time there has contributed greatly to a state of clinical depression. I’ve only stayed in the job because I needed the private healthcare to cover the cost of therapy and in patient stays .

It was clear from the start that the job was not what was advertised and it has been clear since I have returned ( after six months off due to my depression) that there are no opportunities for growth.

I feel tied to my job for money and healthcare alone . I’ve recently been contacted by recruiters offering me six months contracting roles at similar prestigious FI ; the pay will allow me to have a better quality of life and take long breaks from work when needed .

My only concern with doing this is further stunting my career and any prospects of growth . I tried reaching out to a friend who was very harsh and told me there is nothing stopping me from staying in the organisation I am in and simply networking. I was taken aback by this as I thought I had explained that this was not a possibility considering that there are no opportunities for this ; if they were I wouldn’t be looking to leave.

I also plan on contracting so I will have enough money to set up my own business venture as I ultimately would like to work for myself.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated
