I am a 16 year old male high school student, currently in grade 11. I know it might be too soon to decide what i wanna do in the future but i want to prepare for it by taking courses related to ut for grade 12.
I have to go to university. My parents would think of me as a failure if i dont go to a good university. I mentioned college once and got myself in a long talk with my parents...
I would say i am above average in my grades. I always had this (talent?) for math that i could understand it easily and it was always easy for me.
Memorising stuff isnt my thing. I didnt take bio in grade 11 because i didnt want to do something that has a lot of memorising.
I've always lived video games and will always play them. (Add epic games: Mehrdad_q). I always wanted to do something related to video games. I took computer science and i really like the concept of coding and programming your own thing.
First thing that comes to mind is computer science, but i dont know if it will lead to a good job with a high salary. I also dont want to sit all day.
Ideally, computer science in uoft (i live in toronto, canada) should be my dream, but from what i've heard a degree in cs doesnt necessarily mean a high paying job, and it might not even matter at the end. I also really enjoy animating in adobe animate.
I dont even know if this is the right place to post this and I KNOW this is such a messy post with random information all over the place, but if even one person could help me i would be really greatful.
Edit: i should probably include that i hate public speaking and worry way too much about what people think about me. I wouldnt say im socially awkward but im not comfortable in those situations.
Hello everyone. A short explanation: I finished my PhD in physics but want to try something new, so I applied to postdoc in Neuroscience. I got an offer that is interesting, but causes issues with timing to live with my SO. I believe I want to be a prof, but I have never had a job that isn’t in a physics lab. This makes me worried my desire to be a prof is partially a result of ignorance and never having had a job “in the real world”.
So, I’m trying to decide if I should take this postdoc offer and have to deal with living apart from my SO later on while I finish the postdoc, or I explore jobs outside academia.
There isn’t a right answer to this, but I’m curious if anyone has thoughts they’d like to offer.
Thanks
I work for a major US Airline as a duty manager in Southern California. Number 2 in seniority for my station among the 5 duty managers.
18months ago I was put on a work schedule that nearly destroyed my marriage as I never saw my wife or son. I saw them for a few minutes in the morning or for a couple hours on Saturday. It required couples counseling to fix. I went to Tuesday/Wednesday off with 3p-1130p hours instead of my Friday/Saturday 4am to 1pm gig.
6 months Ago I finally got my normal schedule back where family time isn’t an issue and life has been great...Until today.. everything is back to how it was and I cannot fathom reliving that hell again.
So, I love the airline industry and all it entails. Except this, which I never experienced in over 14 years.
I’m willing to resign and start a new job even in another field. Something m-f 9-5 type of deal.
How do you suggest someone decide how to leave an industry they love? My family is obviously most important, finding something else is quite difficult.
A little background:
I applied to a rotational program for an aerospace company about 2 weeks ago. I previously had worked for suppliers of this company and I know their products and business well.
A week later a hiring manager (he’s a the director of the dept I’d be working in) emailed me asking for an interview. During this time however I had to change my graduation date to a semester later due to personal and family obligations as well as scheduling issues. My background is solid either way.
I emailed him back and said I can’t be considered for full time but asked if I can be considered for an internship with the company, this was his response:
“Yes, you certainly are eligible for the summer internship. Please apply. If you decide to do so, please let me know as I would still like to speak with you.
Sorry to hear of the issues that have come up. Family and personal wellbeing come first.”
Like I said, my background fits well to the position and I’ve worked with this company before with their suppliers.
Is this a good sign? He was really quick and HR never screened me. Also he asked me to apply to the internship still and still wanted to talk about my resume. It’s also September and the internship would start in May or June.
